Schedule for Family Weekend 2010

Friday, September 24

Noon – 8 pm:   Lore Degenstein Art Gallery, A Complex Weave: Women and Identity in Contemporary Art 

6 – 7:30 pm:   Power dining with Brenda Fabian, director of the Center for Career Services (Preregistration is required).  Workshop for students and their families to practice their dining etiquette to build confidence in formal dining and networking situations.  Participants will learn how to handle accidents, eat messy or difficult foods, learn what silverware to use and practice how to speak while eating.  Meeting Rooms in Degenstein Campus Center 

7:30 pm:   Scholar’s Dinner. Evert Dining Hall. Invitation only 

TBD:   Hillel Shabbat Service  

8 pm:   Student play, The Diary of Anne Frank.  Degenstein Center Theater.  Tickets may be purchased from the Box Office (570-372-ARTS) Monday through Friday from noon to 5 p.m.  

Saturday, September 25

8:30am – 1pm:   Family Weekend Registration and Information Table. Mellon Lounge, Degenstein Campus Center 

9am – 5pm:   Recreation/games, Degenstein Campus Center.  Outdoor equipment and games available for multigenerational family fun 

9am – noon:   Parents Executive Board Information. Mellon Lounge, Degenstein Campus Center. Meet current board members and pick up SU family buttons. 

9:00 –  10:00:   Presidential Address and Q & A with President L. Jay Lemons and Carl Moses, the new Provost, as well as other members of the Executive Staff. Degenstein Center Theater, Degenstein Campus Center   

10:00 –11:30:   Global Opportunities Forum. Learn about cross cultural opportunities for your student, and discuss the adventure of living and learning off campus in domestic and international  locations. Faylor Lecture Hall in Fisher (new location)

11:30 – 1:30:   Picnic hosted by President L. Jay and Mrs. Lemons. $10 per person (ticket required). Tent on Smith Field 

11:30 – 1:30:   Miniature golf sponsored by S.A.C. Free for students and their families. Beside the tent on Smith Field  

10 – 4:   Selinsgrove Market Street Festival. Over 100 vendors selling everything but the kitchen sink.  From egg rolls to earrings,  games and entertainment, the festival will provide a memorable experience for you and your family.  Market Street, Selinsgrove 

Noon – 8pm:   Lore Degenstein Art Gallery. Degenstein Campus Center.  A Complex Weave: Women and Identity in Contemporary Art 

1:00 pm: Alumni Men's Lacrosse Game, Lopardo Stadium. Watch alumni play against our current players!

2:30 pm:   Student play, The Diary of Anne Frank.  Degenstein Center Theater. Tickets may be purchased from the Box Office (570-372-ARTS) Monday through Friday  from noon to 5 p.m.  

12 or 3:30:   Come watch the Penn State game with your family at Charlie’s Coffee House (kickoff might not be determined until two weeks prior to the game)  

Noon:   Mens Golf SU Invitational, Susquehanna Valley Country Club  

1 pm:   Field Hockey vs. Catholic, Sassafras Field 

4 – 5 pm:   Legacy Reception and Photo. Shearer Weber Dining Rooms, Degenstein.  Campus Center Open to current students who have a relative (parent, grandparent,  great-grandparent, aunt or uncle) who is an alumnus and their families.  Registration is required.   

8 pm:   Student play, The Diary of Anne Frank.  Degenstein Center Theater.  Tickets may be purchased from the Box Office (570-372-ARTS) Monday through Friday from noon to 5 p.m.   

8 pm:   Open Mic night (parents and families are invited to attend and perform). Charlie’s Coffeehouse                      

Sunday, September 26

11 am:   University Chapel Service. Weber Chapel Auditorium  

 1 pm:   JV Football vs. Lycoming, Stagg Field                             

2:30 pm:   Student play, The Diary of Anne Frank.  Degenstein Center Theater. Tickets may be purchased from the Box Office (570-372-ARTS) Monday through Friday  from noon to 5 p.m.   

3 pm:   CROP Walk. Open to students and their families, this service event raises awareness and funds for world hunger.  The walk totals 6 miles, the average distance individuals around the  world walk to get food or clean water. Along the route there will be interactive    information stations so participants can learn more about hunger around the world. Registration opens at 2:30 at Weber Chapel. Contact Karen Ward, deacon of service for the chaplain’s office, for additional information or to request a donation envelope. 

8 pm:   Student play, The Diary of Anne Frank.  Degenstein Center Theater.  Tickets may be purchased from the Box Office (570-372-ARTS) Monday through Friday  from noon to 5 p.m.
